Mad Max

I'm only responsible for the art specifically pointed out in these pictures.

I was hired by Avalanche to work on Mad Max, which was my first professional project. My main contribution to the released game is about half of the terrain textures in the first two regions. I worked closely with our Technical Art Director, who did all of the setup for the rule based terrain materials.

I used a combination of Zbrush, Photoshop, Crazy Bump and Ndo for almost all of them.
The textures are all blended without height maps/blend maps so it all came down to making normals that would mix well together in big gradient transitions. Rather then simply desaturating our textures, we used "Color balance" in Photoshop and matched it with a gray square. The textures kept more alive this way.
